About St. Bonaventure Rugby
Founded in 1975, the St. Bonaventure rugby program has a long history of success in New York state and beyond.
Over the last decade the program has moved through the ranks of collegiate rugby in the Northeast. First winning five New York Division 2 championships in the 1990s and 2000s, and then three Empire Conference Division 1-AA titles (2012 in fifteens, 2013 & ’14 in sevens) and a D1-AA Elite Eight appearance, the Bonnies now compete in Rugby East, the region’s leading Division 1-A conference.
Today St. Bonaventure rugby offers a full-time coach employed by the university as well as a staff of assistant coaches with more than 30 years of coaching experience. Our players have access to premier facilities including a state-of-the-art turf field with lights, as well as the Richter Center for weight training and skill development.
As a member of the SBU rugby team, you will develop your personal accountability, mental toughness, and competitive drive. Your experience with the St. Bonaventure rugby team will help you on and off the field during and after your college career. Not only will you have every opportunity to excel in the classroom and on the rugby pitch, our dedicated alumni group will support you through internship and job placement.
