COLLEGE STATION, Texas – All of the Allied Rugby Conference (ARC) teams were enjoying a well-earned spring break this past week, but a vacation from vacation isn’t an option as teams get right back into the thick of things in ARC play.
The drama all builds towards April 6, which is the ARC Championship Game. That one is for all the marbles and for the ARC’s one and only seed in the D1A playoffs. The top two teams in the conference square off in that one, and right now, it could be any combination of four teams (Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas and Texas Tech).
Texas Tech travels to College Station on Saturday (March 23) in a game that will determine their postseason future. It Tech knocks off the Aggies (preferably with a bonus point win), they would leapfrog their way into second place in the standings. But A&M has a lot to play for.
Having only played three games, a win puts A&M at the top of the ARC table. A bonus point win for the Aggies would put a lot of pressure on OU as they would have to notch a bonus point win over A&M when the two teams meet on March 30.
The University of Texas also has a shot at shaking up the standings down the stretch. They play Sam Houston State and Baylor in the last two weeks in conference play, which are two bonus-point winnable games for the Longhorns. They may be the sleeper in the conference as they linger with only 10 points, but remember they have only played three games while all but one team have played four.
