ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Wildcats have punched their ticket to the postseason as an Independent seed.
With CWU’s Independent status, they had to win at least four of the seven league games on their schedule to qualify for the postseason. This weekend, their 60-0 win over Wyoming put them at 4-0, securing their spot in a play-in game against Cal Poly (California #2) on April 20. The winner of that play-in game will play the West #1 seed in the D1A quarterfinals on April 27.
Fans will get a preview of the CWU vs. Cal Poly play-in game on April 13 when the Mustangs travel to Central Washington for the last regular game of the season for both CWU and Poly.
So far, CWU has quietly gone about the business of dominating their schedule to this point. The roughest part is upcoming as they play Colorado (1-0), St. Mary’s (7-0), and, of course, Cal Poly (5-1).
