This weekend we say goodbye to February, say hello to March, and with that we start to get a closer to the playoff push. There are a total of 7 games this weekend and many of them have major playoff implications.

#3 Cal kicked us off this weekend with a Wednesday evening game against Santa Clara. In a game the featured eight Cal Freshmen, the lights were not too bright for the young team. Cal ran in 18 tries and scored ninety-three unanswered points, winning by a score of 100-3. This win has helped Cal to keep their unbeaten streak alive, and will give them a plethora of confidence as they head into next week’s contest against conference foe, UCLA.

A major game for the California Conference takes place this weekend, #1 Saint Mary’s goes up against #18 UC Davis. Saint Mary’s currently sits atop the conference with fifteen points from 3 games. UC Davis sits behind them in second with fifteen points from four games. If UC Davis is able to pull off the upset they will in a position to win the Conference. Saint Mary’s has a game in hand over UC Davis, and a win here will all but seal up another conference title for them.

In the Mid-South #5 Lindenwood will come up against #10 Arkansas State. Lindenwood is sitting in second with the only blip in their record coming against #2 Life. Arkansas state has only won one game this season, and will be looking to make amends. In their last meeting Lindenwood was able to pull away 24-0. Arkansas State will need to win here to keep any hopes they have of winning the conference alive, while Lindenwood is still well and truly in the hunt.

The other Mid-South game of the week Davenport, coming off an impressive showing against Life last weekend where they mustered a bonus point for four tries, will face Clemson who, are still seeking their first win. Davenport will be drawing confidence from their attacking prowess that they displayed last weekend, and from the fact that they have already beaten Clemson once this season. A win here will put pressure on Lindenwood and create further separation from Arkansas State.

Down South in the Red River conference undefeated LSU will take on top of the table Texas A&M. The Aggies boast an impressive 5-1 record, while the Tigers aren’t too far behind them with a record of 4-0. This will be an important match and the result should provide a pretty clear template for how the rest of the season will progress. The last time these two teams played one another LSU handed Texas A&M their only loss of the season, in a tight 17-10 affair. However, with LSU on the road this weekend, home advantage could prove the difference between these two teams.

Oklahoma and TCU will face off in the final Red River game of the week. Oklahoma is in the middle of a mid season renaissance. After a slow start to the season they have kicked things up a notch and have scored 135 points in their last 3 games, winning by an average margin of 29 points.

Colorado and USC will face each other in an out of conference match this weekend as part of the Las Vegas Invitational Tournament.
