Most teams have put up shop for 2018; however, in the Red River Conference they aren’t done just yet. This weekend the only game taking place in the competition will see a top of the ladder clash between the Texas A&M Aggies, and the Baylor Bears. Both the Aggies and the Bears sit at 2-1 in conference play. The Aggies fell to Arkansas, while the Bears’ sole loss came at the hands of Texas A&M. Despite it only being December, this is a must win game for Baylor if they are to keep their conference championship hopes alive.

The Aggies sit on 17 competition points, while the Bears are on 10. Baylor does have a game left in hand, however, a loss here and they will have fallen to 0-2 against the Aggies and could potentially fall 12 points behind. If this does happen, A&M would have an overwhelming upper hand to secure the divisional title and book their place in the championship game. Their remaining three games are against teams languishing towards the bottom of the respective tables, with a combined record of  3-9.

Last time these two teams met, it was also the last time either of them played a fixture. On that occasion it was a convincing victory for the Aggies who stormed home by 52 points beating the Bears, 57-5. Leading the charge that day was their inside center, Ross Navarro who scored 20 points including two tries. He wasn’t the only one who put in a dominant display as, coming off the bench,  Reuben Mikeska dotted down for a brace too.

The big advantage this time round for Baylor, is they will be playing at home. The Bears will have to rely on a lot more than just home comforts to see them through as they now must try and reverse a 52-point loss only a few weeks ago.

With so much on the line in this game, tensions are sure to be high throughout the course of the game. It promises to be a much tighter affair than the first go around, and each team will be hoping to solidify their standing in the division.
