As we are now less than a month away from the start of the D1A playoffs, each game has increasing importance, and Week 11 has plenty of games that will have massive post season ramifications. With multiple teams sitting on the edge playing this weekend, Week 11 has the potential to be the most pivotal.

There has already been a couple of games that will undoubtedly have massive impacts. The first was #14 Grand Canyon (GCU), currently the last team into the playoffs, beat #19 UC Davis in convincing fashion on Wednesday night, 45-14. GCU will play Santa Clara on Saturday to round up their California Tour.

#13 Central Washington (CWU), currently the second last team into the playoffs, played Utah Valley on Thursday night, and Utah Valley landed a statement victory. Utah Valley beat their guests 40-16. This is the second week in a row that Utah Valley has beaten a ranked opponent. Don’t be surprised if they are ranked next week. CWU takes on #4 BYU on Saturday, and are in real danger of falling out of contention for the playoffs. Utah Valley takes on Utah State on Saturday.

Another game that will have massive playoff implications this weekend is LSU against Texas. The Red River Conference is the only automatic qualifying spot in the playoffs that hasn’t been filled. It will be filled after the Red River Championship Game. Baylor will be representing the North, but the South division representative is still to be determined. Currently its a close race between Texas A&M and LSU, if LSU loses they will be out of contention. Expect to see a wildly motivated LSU outfit this weekend.

In the Mid South there are some playoff implications at stake too, #2 Life will take on Davenport. Life, having wrapped up the Mid South title, will be pushed by Davenport, who showed some offensive firepower in their last outing and will be looking to cause an upset and try to sneak into the playoffs. #11 Arkansas State will take on Clemson, in the other game. Arkansas State has been up and down this year, and are not safe from falling out of the playoffs. A loss to winless Clemson could seal their fate and see them fall out of playoff contention.

#3 Cal will take on #17 Utah. Utah are four rankings out of cracking the playoffs, and after a series of disappointing results they will be keen to make a statement and claw their way back into the playoffs. If they cannot land a win this weekend, their last chance to impress the selection committee will be against BYU, which is not much easier than knocking off Cal.

#1 Saint Mary’s will complete their California Conference schedule this weekend when they take on Cal Poly. Saint Mary’s has run through their conference with ease this season, and this weekend looks to be no different.

Colorado will take the trip down the I-25 this weekend to take on Air Force in Colorado Springs. Colorado has had a busy spring schedule, but without much success. They’ll be looking to change that this weekend.
