MARIETTA, Ga. – Another Life/Arkansas State battle and another instant classic. It took all 80 minutes to decide a winner and Life came out on top. But Arkansas State’s effort, despite the loss, handed them the Mid-South Conference title, giving the Red Wolves the last laugh. For now…
Both teams exchanged blows and lead changes. In the last minutes, Life needed a try to win or a penalty to tie, and Life’s center, Calvin Neil, provided the latter. Joe Cowley, Life’s stellar kicker, converted to end the game, 33-29 Life.
The conference title though, came down to points in the standings, and ASU managed to get two points out of the loss: one for losing within seven points of Life and one for scoring more four or more tries.
Despite the standings minutia, both teams will be keen to start their respective playoff runs that start with the D1A Quarterfinals on April 27.
Arkansas State will host a surging Kutztown (East #2) side and Life will travel to Army (East #1) who knocked off rivals Navy 28-26 this weekend.
The drama might continue very soon for the Mid-South giants if they prevail in the quarters. If so, they will play one another in the semifinals on May 4.
