LAFAYETTE, Colo. – After a surprising defeat to Texas Tech in October, Oklahoma needed to produce positive results from its two November fixtures in order to end the fall portion of its season on a high and did just that. Victories over Baylor and Arkansas came easier than expected thanks to the play of Red River Player of the Month for November – Manny Soto.
The 2016 All-Conference performer dotted down twice in Oklahoma’s shutout win against the Bears before going off for six – yes, six – tries during the Sooners 48-25 handling of Arkansas.
“Manny was invaluable to us in those wins,” said Oklahoma Head Coach Doug Neubauer. “He looks to take advantage of any space left by the defense and knows when to let the forwards take it up or give it to the backs. If our opponents take a moment off, he is through the gap and points follow as evidence by his eight tries in the last two conference matches.”
Soto also dotted down twice in the Sooners win over TCU back in September, giving him 10 tries in just three conference games so far this season. The junior scrum half and his Oklahoma teammates get back on the pitch Jan. 28 when they will attempt to exact revenge on the Red Raiders.
Soto joins October’s Red River Player of the Month, Baylor fly half Parker Vincent, as the conference’s two Player of the Month recipients for the fall semester.
