BOULER, Colo. — After four weeks of California Conference action, St. Mary’s College and Cal Poly look to be the favorites.
St. Mary’s thrashed UCSB 64-3 this weekend, extending their D1A record to 4-0. Gaels Head Coach Tim O’Brien wasn’t close to being satisfied with his team’s 61-point win, pointing out that the penalty count and knock ons held his team back. He’s surely got an eye on the postseason and understands that unforced errors will be capitalized on by good teams, the teams St. Mary’s will likely play after the regular season.
Cal Poly is the other frontrunner in California. A 58-8 win over UC-Davis keeps the Mustangs undefeated and puts them on a collision course with St. Mary’s the weekend of March 9. It’s likely Poly and St. Mary’s will earn playoff berths.
Elsewhere in the conference, Santa Clara took out Sac State 45-17 and San Diego State took it to Stanford, beating the visitors 78-0.
