BOULDER, Colo. – Reigning Rugby East Champion Army has a lot of quality rugby players back at West Point to help pursue a second consecutive conference title. One of the most important returning Brothers is center Andrew Fargo, who is our D1A Player of the Week.
Fargo, a junior from Del Mar, Calif., dotted down in both the first and second half in Army’s 48-0 blanking of Buffalo.
“Andrew did some things well that he’s been working hard to improve on, but like most of the team, he also came away with a number of things to work on and improve going forward,” said Head Coach Matt Sherman.
Fargo’s play as a line-breaking center will be huge to the Black Knights’ success, but he is also one of the more experienced players expected to increase his leadership role following the graduation of last year’s captain and Rugby East Forward of the Year Collum Magee.
“We feel it’s important for all players to be pushing hard for their best performance at all times of the year and regardless of age or year,” Sherman said of replacing Magee. “However, I think you’d always like and expect the upperclassmen to set the standard highest.”
This week, Fargo and No. 5 Army host St. Bonaventure under the lights of West Point’s Anderson Rugby Complex at 7 p.m. ET.
