LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Men’s Eagles Sevens head coach Mike Friday has announced the 12-man squad that will head to Rio next month to represent Team USA at the Olympics, and the list of players includes Colorado State’s Ben Pinkelman.
Pinkelman, who was recently named a Collegiate All-American in both sevens in 15s, made his debut on the HSBC World Series playing for Friday’s Eagles early in 2016. Playing prop, ‘Pinks’ managed to score eight tries in 36 matches, while providing consistent go-forward ball and a determined tackling approach defensively.
During the 2014-15 season playing for the Rams, Pinkelman scored 11 tries in just five conference matches, and added another score in the D1A Playoffs versus Lindenwood. This past fall, the former Cherry Creek High School standout posted a 4-try game in a 56-13 win over Air Force on his way to being named the West Conference’s Player of the Year.
The Men’s Rugby Sevens tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics kicks off Aug. 9 and concludes Aug. 11. To see the full roster for the Men’s Eagles Olympic squad, visit USARugby.org.
