LAFAYETTE, Colo. – UCLA produced inconsistent results over the month of February, but one of the Bruins who has kept good form is PAC Rugby Conference Player of the Month Christian Bernard.
“His toughness has really helped us keep things together given the amount of injuries we have suffered,” UCLA Head Coach and PAC Commissioner Scott Stewart said of his openside flanker. “He has had to soak up extra minutes to fill the gaps and had his best game of the year last week.”
In that performance Bernard – an Economics major – caused havoc on defense and scored a try in the Bruins 54-12 victory over rivals USC.
“Christian has been great for us in all phases, but particularly running onto the ball in attack,” Stewart added of the sophomore from San Diego.
The Bruins will need another massive shift from Bernard in their next match; a March 11 fixture against No. 2-ranked Cal in Los Angeles.
