LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Thirty-three players from D1A Rugby were recently named to USA Rugby’s 2016-17 National Collegiate Academic Honor Roll.

To be named to the annual Academic Honor Roll, players must be at least a sophomore in class standing, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50, and be a regular ‘A-side’ reserve or starter.

“It is with great pleasure that we announce the 2016-17 USA Rugby Academic Honor Roll,” said USA Rugby Collegiate Director Rich Cortez. “These athletes have proven once again that academic excellence and athletic achievement can be complementary. Their institutions, families, coaches and fans can be justifiably proud of their achievements on and off the field.”

Included in this year’s recipients are three D1A players who were awarded the recognition as a member of the Academic Honor Roll last season: Chase Bockstruck (Air Force), Jack Casey (Arkansas) and Michael Scarcella (Iona).

The 206-17 Academic Honor Roll also includes four D1A student-athletes who were named to the 2016-17 Collegiate All-Americans: Casey, Cody Melphy (Life), Scarcella and Harley Wheeler (Life).
