COTTAGE GROVE, Wis. – The Wisconsin Badgers secured their place in Big Ten rugby lore by winning two conference championships (7s and 15s) in the same season. Wisconsin beat Ohio State 30-10 on Saturday to complete the 15s portion of that legend.
Ohio State came out swinging and scored first and by halftime the game was on a razor’s edge, but Wisconsin was up 10-5. The Badgers laid it on in the second half though and Ohio State struggle to keep up with the pace. The Badgers enjoyed a 25-point lead in the final stages, putting the Buckeyes in a tough place, mentally.
Ohio State scored a try for pride at the death, but Wisconsin nabbed the title and a place in the history books.
Winning the conference entitles Wisconsin to a play-in spot against Colorado (West #2) on April 20. If they win, they would travel to Moraga, Calif., to play St. Mary’s (California #1) in thd D1A Quarterfinals on April 27.
