SAN DIEGO, Calif. — There were no big shockers in California this weekend as each favored team lived up to their respective billings.

St. Mary’s took out Santa Clara 74-8 in Moraga, Calif., Cal Poly beat Sac State 36-17, and SDSU bested UC Davis 25-3. The biggest surprise was UCSB’s 72-12 win over Stanford. It’s usually a much closer affair, an indication perhaps that UCSB is coming along in D1A a bit faster than Stanford. Both teams are new to the competition this year.

Poly and St. Mary’s go head to head this weekend. Both teams have perfect records in conference play and this weekend’s game might well determine one team’s postseason fate because of the seeding implications. If both teams stay on track in the conference and win out, this game would determine who gets the #1 seed out of California come playoff time.
