MORAGA, Calif. – The St. Mary’s Gaels took Cal Poly out 58-24 in the national semifinals and are headed to the D1A National Championship on May 18 in Greensboro, N.C.
An uneasy seven-point halftime lead opened up to a 21-point cushion just after halftime. But the Mustangs kept in it and did their best to chip away at St. Mary’s lead, earning a 24-48 scoreline, but it was a lost cause in the end as the Gaels stayed aggressive and added an additional 10 points before the final whistle.
The Gaels will now face the Life University Running Eagles in the National Championship. Life took out rivals Arkansas State in a thriller in Jonesboro to punch their ticket to the final. The title game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
