BATON ROUGE, La. – Arizona’s first D1A Playoff match ended in a, 30-10, victory over previously unbeaten LSU. In a game that originally had the makings of a low-scoring affair, the Wildcats eventually ran over four tries in the win.

LSU’s Alec Miller and Arizona’s Adam Wilson exchanged penalty kicks 20 minutes into the first half. Both teams continued to have their share of procession and territorial advantage before Wildcat prop Dacoda Worth scored a try near half’s end.

The late score helped provide a spark for the visiting team, as Arizona dictated the first 20 minutes of the second half. Freshman loose forwards Tyler Hansen and Ryan Fitzpatrick scored tries, and Wilson converted both before adding his second penalty.

The Tigers excited the home crowd when lock Louis Flores scored his first D1A try, but the Wildcats proved too strong and hooker Bryce Mantell would dot down to cap off Arizona’s 20-point victory.

The win moves 12th-ranked Arizona into the D1A Quarterfinals where they will play Utah in Salt Lake City. The Wildcats faced the West Conference Champions in January, but were unable to hold onto a first half lead and fell at home, 39-31.

Its defeat ends an otherwise successful first season in D1A Rugby for LSU. The Tigers went undefeated on its way to winning the Red River. The reigning conference champions would appear to be among favorites to win its league competition in 2017, along with Oklahoma and Texas A&M.
