D1A Rugby Top 20: Week 10

D1A Rugby: D1A Rugby Top 20: Week 10

LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Several interesting nonconference results help institute a handful of changes in the 10th week of the D1A Rugby Top 20.

It was Army’s turn to host its annual fixture against military academy rival Air Force, and the home-field advantage at West Point paid off. The Black Knights overwhelmed the Zoomies, 62-19. The win bumped Army up one spot to No. 7, while the massive defeat forced Air Force to slip to No. 13 this week.

Davenport picked up another nonconference win, but managed to drop in the rankings. A week after beating Arkansas State and improving to the sixth spot in the rankings, a 12-point win over Notre Dame has the Panthers checking in at No. 8.

Kutztown lost over the weekend, but it’s tough to argue the logic used to move the Golden Bears up one spot. Last year’s Rugby East Champions gave this year’s title holders, Penn State, its best game of the season. In a back-and-forth affair that had the Nittany Lions on their heels late into the game, Kutztown’s narrow loss sends them ahead of an idle Wisconsin side.

The Red River Conference’s LSU sits just outside the Top 20 at No. 21. The Tigers host a quality side in Texas A&M Saturday, Nov. 12. If LSU improves to 2-0 in conference play with a win over the Aggies, it ought to have a decent shot of cracking the Top 20 next week.
