LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Last week’s game against West Virginia felt like a must-win for St. Bonaventure considering it entered the game against the Mountaineers in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Desperately wanting to get back into the win column, the Bonnies put together a clinical 80-minute performance and no player played better in the 70-22 win than D1A Rugby Player of the Week Christian Artuso.
Typically the team’s vice captain, Artuso handled the reins of being captain for the first time with All-Conference prop Luis Carpio on the shelf with an injury and excelled in the leadership role. While managing the offense from the fly half position, Artuso also collected a career-high 15 points.
“His ability to control the attack contributed immensely to our win,” St. Bonaventure Head Coach Tui Osborne said of his sophomore No. 10.
A dual threat on the pitch capable of burning defenses with his feet or a crisp pass, Artuso is well-balanced in the classroom, too. The Harvey School product from Katonah, N.Y. is working towards a double major in Accounting and Finance.
This weekend Artuso and the Bonnies hope to even their Rugby East record to 3-3 against 13th-ranked Kutztown.
