BOULDER, Colo. – Lindenwood didn’t pick up the two-win sweep during last week’s trip to California as it had hoped, but did show well against reigning champs Saint Mary’s, and bounced back to slam the door on Santa Clara.
Several players performed double duty on the weekend, including out D1A Player of the Week – Malon Al-Jiboori. Showing off his versatility, Al-Jiboori started at lock against the Gaels and played in the backrow against the Broncos, scoring a second half try.
“Malon is a great defender, has good footwork and body height in contact – not to mention a high work rate,” complimented Lindenwood Director of Rugby JD Stephenson.
Al-Jiboori has been impressing coaches and spectators far before the Lions California tour. A star player out of Union High School in Oklahoma, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound freshman has been on the radar of USA Rugby’s age-grade All-American staff for some time, and recently scrimmaged against his own college side while camping with the Junior All-Americans.
