BOULDER, Colo. – San Diego State moved up to No. 13 in the latest Canterbury D1A Top 20 after beating UCLA, 42-41. If it wasn’t for the play of fly half Kalei Konrad, the Aztecs would have never been in position to win the match, but it’s what Konrad did on the final play of the match that sealed his spot as D1A Player of the Week.
San Diego State was awarded a penalty just inside UCLA territory with no time remaining and Konrad, the team’s captain, elected to put his boot to the test and kick for the game-winning points. The AIG Men’s Collegiate All-American’s kick split the uprights with distance to spare, and the Aztecs jumped into each other’s arms in celebration of the hard-fought victory.
The Environmental Engineering major’s overall rugby prowess and leadership has been instrumental in keeping a proud San Diego State program competitive while the roster is currently dominated by underclassmen.
San Diego State’s next California Conference match is April 11 on the road versus No. 8 Cal Poly.
