BOULDER, Colo. – A match coming off the heels of winter break could easily be a trap game for the favored side. However, Cal Poly expected to beat San Louis Obispo RFC Jan. 9 and did just that – by 25 points.
Six Mustangs scored tries against SLO, but it was John Joe Murphy who led the way with four scores of his own.
The fifth-year senior and Forestry major is no stranger to man of the match performances, as Murphy has been a stalwart contributor for Cal Poly throughout his career. The eight man from San Francisco captained Cal Poly last year, and scored five tries in four California Conference matches.
Next up for the Mustangs is a Jan. 16 home game against Santa Barbara Rugby Academy.
