LAFAYETTE, Colo. – It’s not often the D1A Player of the Week award goes to a student-athlete coming off of a loss. TCU’s Bryce Watson is one of those exceptions after scoring all 15 of his team’s points in the Horned Frogs’ 47-15 loss to a streaking Baylor side.
“This past weekend was by far his best performance,” TCU Head Coach TeShay Flowers said. “We were a little short-handed because our team leader missed the game because of a school commitment. Bryce seized the opportunity to show that he can be a leader as well.”
The freshman Pre-Med student opened the Red River contest against the Bears with a penalty kick, and managed to maneuver through Baylor’s defense for two second-half tries – one of which he converted.
“On the field, he is special,” complimented Flowers. “Off the field, he is always working to grow the exposure of our program, and promoting what it means to be part of the TCU Rugby Family.”
Last season, the Horned Frogs went winless in the Red River Conference. With the help of Watson and a number of other talented young players, TCU has already knocked off Texas Tech and battled Texas to a tie. Watson and his teammates’ last chance to pick up a conference win is April 2 when the Horned Frogs hit the road to play Texas A&M.
