Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 23

D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Top 20: Week 23

LAFAYETTE, Colo. – A week after several March 25 results produced major changes to the Canterbury D1A Rugby Top 20, the top-15 spots in this week’s rankings remain the same.

The biggest change to this week’s Top 20 is Baylor’s inclusion in the weekly rankings for the first time in program history. As winners of Red River’s North Division, the Bears traveled to Austin, Texas where they took on 2016 conference champions and 2017 South Division winners LSU. In a remarkable game, Baylor came back from a two-try deficit to hand the Tigers their first-ever conference loss and earned the Bears the right to hoist the Red River championship trophy.

As a result, the Bears – who have been hovering just outside of the Top 20 for several weeks – check-in at No. 16 this week. LSU’s first Red River defeat drops the Tigers three places to No. 19. LSU remains one spot ahead of a Clemson team that has lost its last two games by a combined 118 points.

Saturday, April 8 marks the final Saturday of D1A Rugby games before the 24th rendition of the 2016-17 Canterbury rankings are published Tuesday, April 11. Those will be the final rankings of the regular season and determine which schools will make up the 12-team D1A Rugby Playoff bracket.
