Canterbury D1A Rugby Top 20: Week 13

D1A Rugby: Canterbury D1A Rugby Top 20: Week 13

LAFAYETTE, Colo. – The first Canterbury D1A Rugby Top 20 of 2017 sees a few changes in the second half of the rankings.

UCLA’s PAC Rugby Conference opening win over Arizona State earned the Bruins the No. 11 spot in the Top 20 – one place better than where they finished 2016. UCLA’s 23-point victory over the Sun Devils pushes Colorado State back to No. 12.

Arizona followed up a solid 43-17 nonconference defeat of Santa Clara by traveling to Berkeley and holding the Cal Golden Bears to under 40 points in a losing effort. The performances were enough to leapfrog Wisconsin for the No. 16 spot in Canterbury’s rankings. The Badgers, meanwhile, fall back to No. 17.

San Diego State outlasted Cal Poly in a nonconference fixture between the two California teams. The Aztec’s 13-8 win versus the Mustangs sends them ahead of 2016 Red River Champion LSU for the 19th place in the Top 20.

Arizona State, Cal Poly, Colorado and Ohio State are the four programs currently sitting just outside of the Top 20.

Ten Top 20 sides will be in action this coming weekend, presenting the opportunity for several changes in Canterbury’s 14th week of D1A Rugby rankings.
