LAFAYETTE, Colo. – Cal Poly saw mixed results throughout March, but any inconsistencies were not for the play of utility back and March’s California Conference Player of the Month – Keli’i Dominguez.
To open the month, Dominguez dotted down from the full back position in the Mustangs’ 27-3 win over UC Santa Barbara – the same match Cal Poly fly half Corey McGrillen went down with an injury. Since then, Dominguez has taken over the No. 10 jumper and performed quite well as first receiver.
When the Mustangs went to the desert for a two-match tour of Arizona, the senior Mechanical Engineering major continued his solid form.
“We toured Arizona over spring break, and Keli’i was absolutely dominant,” described Cal Poly Head Coach James Tesoriero. “He broke the line repeatedly in our 76-10 win against Grand Canyon University, scoring a try and throwing the final pass for a number of others. He was also amongst the best on either team in our loss against the Tempe Old Devils later in the week.”
Next up for Canterbury’s 12th-ranked Mustangs is their California finale against No. 2 Saint Mary’s April 9.
