BYU takes Life out at home
BYU took out a very good Life University team on the Running Eagles’ home pitch in Marietta, Ga. 26-20 in a very tight matchup, the tightest of the year for the Cougars.
It was always going to be a match with a lot of fireworks with two of the elite scoring teams in the 25-team D1A competition and it lived up to its billing.
The Running Eagles were under pressure in front of their home crowd as BYU took at 26-5 lead in the encounter, but the team willed itself within six points of the Cougars. BYU held on for the win though.
“We had to earn this one,” said BYU captain Ryan Roundy, “Life is a very good team. And there’s not a lot of teams, if any, who could come in here and beat them. I’m really proud of our guys for their guts and determination.”
Arkansas State halts the Gaels
St. Mary’s hosted the Red Wolves of Arkansas State in Moraga, Calif. and the visitors came away with a 31-17 win. Coming off a thrilling win over Army in the quarterfinals, Arkansas State was red hot and continued their dominant form over the Gaels.
St. Mary’s took a lead and held it for most of the game, but a heroic late game effort by the Red Wolves put ASU out in front 31-17 when the final whistle blew.
