Lafayette CO.- The rankings are in after an incredible Week 11 which saw a lot of impactful games, and the rankings reflect that. This week there have been a total of thirteen changes to the rankings including a team working its way back into the rankings just before the playoffs begin.
In the Top Ten, while the Top Five remained unchanged, there were 4 changes in the rankings from 6-10. Navy and Indiana swapped places, Navy now sits in 6th and Indiana sits in 7th. Both teams play this weekend, don’t be surprised if they’re in different places again next week. #8 Penn State did not move. Army moved down to 10 after Arizona were able to pull off a win by the skin of their teeth against San Diego State.
There was a lot of movement in spots 11-15 as well. Grand Canyon, in their debut season at the D1A level, continued to soar above expectations and claim the 12th spot in the rankings. They were able to reach this spot by compiling important wins against fellow ranked opponent UC Davis and amassing a mammoth 70 point margin of victory over Santa Clara. Notre Dame College, who had previously been 12th in the country fell one spot to 13th. They will have an opportunity to potentially climb higher when they face off against Indiana this weekend. San Diego State has moved up a spot to 14th with their narrow defeat to Arizona. A missed penalty goal after time expired is all that separated the 9th and 14th team, as they fell 41-42. Ohio State bumped up a spot to 15th.
The final five spots in the Top 20 are completely different to what they were this time last week. Colorado State, the Rocky Mountain Champions, are now in the 16th position after they were in 18th last week. Kutztown has made the leap from 20th in the country to 17th, in what could be a reflection of how the voters now see the strength of the schedule they had to face. In the 18th spot is Central Washington, who had a rough week. They lost two games to both Utah Valley and BYU over the weekend. The losses one to an unranked opponent and another to #4 BYU were enough to send CWU down five spots. Utah Valley reemerges in the Top 20 at #19 after claiming their second ranked scalp in as many weeks. They were able put in impressive performances against CWU and Utah State over the weekend, and with two games remaining against Arizona State and Central Washington they could continue their ascension. Rounding up the Top 20 this week is UCD Davis who after their loss to GCU last week now hang on the precipice of the rankings.
