Big Ten Championship Match to be Played: Indiana v Michigan

This Saturday we will see the final Fall match up for D1A rugby with a battle between Big Ten Indiana Hoosiers and the Michigan Wolverines. Indiana comes into the match with an undefeated record and has set the standard across the D1A, certainly the team to beat.

The Wolverines are looking to keep their head in the game. A level of excitement has been escalating throughout the final week of preparation and will certainly make it out to the pitch this Saturday. “The guys are excited to be here and will treat it like any other week, though there is added energy and focus,” says Michigan Coach Matt Trenary. The Wolverines come off a strong win last weekend over Michigan State and seek another solid showing. Expectations of play seem to be quite realistic heading into what might seem like a David and Goliath epoch.

“[We are] playing a game that means a lot to these guys and trying to promote that energy as a team. Lots of players are going to have a lot of fun on Saturday,” says Trenary. Two such players include senior captain Kenny Andutan and senior Chirs Padmos, at flanker and wing respectively. Among senior leadership, Andutan and Padmos face their final match as Wolverine ruggers and will undoubtedly leave it all out on the pitch.

Indiana and Michigan are sporting an off-the-pitch competition as well. In the D1A Player of the Month race, Isaac Hall (Indiana Captain) represents the Hoosiers while Joel Conzelmann (Michigan flyhalf) represents the Wolverines. Both players were nominated and are now bidding for votes to determine who will be entered into the pool for D1A Player of the Year. The contest is hosted by Canterbury of North America who will sponsor a grand prize trip to Twickenham Stadium for the ultimate CCC experience. Vote by following the link: http://on.fb.me/1egVk1H

“Not sure if we’re going to see an upset… who knows. You get one shot and sometimes the better team wins and sometimes they don’t,” says Trenary. This will most definitely be a fantastic way to round out the season.

The 2nd Annual Big Ten Championship match will be held at the Moose Rugby Grounds in Elkhart, Indiana.
